It is starting to look like a coop!

The roof is on...

And there are the sides.

So we did help paint while Marley chewed the leftover wood scraps.

The nesting boxes are in! I know it is overkill for the number of chickens we will have, but we may get more in the future.

There's the back. There are two doors because eventually there will be two runs. We would like to let them range around the property, but the runs are for when we are out, or someone is looking after them. We would like to have two runs so that when one gets all dusty and they start to kill the grass we can just open the other door and have them go out into the other run for a few weeks. Also next year we would like to build a tiny addition onto the side of the coop and let it be the mini breeding coop, and the run attached to that one will be for the rooster and those few hens that go in there with him, so many advantages of having two runs!

Here it is almost finished! At this point we still had to add the door onto the run and a few small details.

All finished

Marley is seriously obsessed with the chickens...

the nesting box doors open up from the outside....super handy.

Here are the nesting boxes from the inside. They are removable so the coop can be cleaned very thoroughly every so often.

The girl's door to the outside is attached to a rope, then a pulley which is on the outside of the coop right by the door. This way we can close the door for them at night when they have gone inside without going inside. Both of the doors are rigged this way.

Snug as bugs!

The ramps and doors are finished.

We just finished our coop a few weeks ago, and are so excited about it! We have 8 chickens so far. The coop was designed and built by our friend Travis, with some help from us. He is a carpenter though, so he did all the hard stuff that we can't do. I hope you enjoyed the pictures!
