Our coop is finally done!! Like many before us we jumped into chicken ownership blind. My husband and I had promised the kids chickens a few months back when we bought a house that had acreage.

On March 2nd we had taken a trip to the local "Rural King" and to my delight it was chick days. I just couldn't walk away from those baby chicks. We purchased 10 chickens of different varieties and a "temporary" coop that they sold at the store.

The race had started, we suddenly needed to build a coop before these chicks were grown. I had no knowledge of coop design nor building, (luckily my husband is VERY handy) and quickly learned that you have so many choices in what to house these young ladies in.

I used byc for all of my research and loved searching the coop designs on this site. My inspiration for this coop came from a design on here under medium coops called "The Egg Plant". I fell in love with her coop and had intended to make mine like that. In the end it turned out similar but I had learned through this process that the beauty of your coop is that it will be an original to design as you like and make changes according to what you think your chicks will like.

We finally finished the coop 100% yesterday. My girls have been out there for about 2 weeks now and our loving it. I love to hang out there with them and watch them.
