We'll be building our first chicken coop soon, and I'll post my plans and ask for all the advice I can get before I make the first purchase of lumber. For now, here's what our back yard looks like. We have about one acre, most of which is deciduous forest.

Here's a shot of our back yard, which was certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat. I keep piles of branches for local wildlife to shelter in, supply drinking water which I keep fresh and never interfere in nature's course (for the most part).

We have 20 or 30 Whitetail Deer who stay in our neighborhood year-round. I've seen a few very large bucks. I think this one is only 3-5 years old.

This 'coon had distemper, and wouldn't shoo from our yard. The local ASPCA was called and they came out in less than 20 minutes to remove him.
