I am an 18 year old girl on a mission to go back to the ways my grandma and great grandma used in the kitchen when they were my age. I am a garden, chicken, and canning JUNKIE! My friends tell me I secretely have an 80 year old woman trapped in my body. My grandma just tells me I have an old soul :) Either way, i'll take it!
I am the proud owner of one Gold Star hen and two Rhode Island Red hens. I get 3 eggs a day, every day. I attribute this to the love and care I give my girls :)
I also have a HUGE garden. I grow green beans, peas, a large variety of peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, onions, cucumbers, poatoes, carrots, raspberries, strawberries, plums, apples, blackberries, blueberries, and a large variety of herbs. We can almost all of these vegetables into a large selection of things. Fresh is the best!!
One of my favorite things about the lifestyle I live is that when we need something for cooking, we don't say "Can you go to the store for me?". Instead we say "Can you go get some eggs for me?", "Can you go dig up some potatoes for me?", "Can you go pick some cucumbers for me?", "Can you go downstairs to the pantry and get some sauerkraut for me?". I love having all of this fresh food at my finger tips. People don't live their lives like this anymore. If only they knew how easy, rewarding, and FUN it is! Sometimes the original way, is the best way :)
