Class- English. Standard- Bantam. Colors- Black. Comb Type- Red Signal 5 points, can be large, with front point being small. Skin/Foot Color- White, feet Dark Slate. Wattles- Red, smooth oblong. Earlobes- Red, smooth oblong. Clean/Feathered Feet- Clean. Number of Toes- 4 . Other Physical Characteristics- Very Black Shine w/iridescence green. Soft Feathers. Egg Color- Brown/ Med Large. Weight- Cockerel 7 lb, Pullets 5 lb. Bantams 2 lb. Conservation Study- Recovering. Cold Hardness- Very Hardy. Broody/Mothering Ability- Good Brooder and Mother. General Temperament- Docile, sweet, shy. Additional Notes- Developed in Australia from Orpingtons. - Developed in Australia from Orpingtons. Early Maturing. Dual Purpose. Know for the egg production can lay up to 309 eggs a year. The original Cook Orpington was crossed with Australian Langshan and Minorca and over time became what we now know as the Australorp. It was sent back to Britain where it caused a sensation and became known as the Australian Utility Orpington, later shortened to Austral Orpington then to Australorp. It was called the "boomerang breed" as the British believed it to be simply a Cook Orpington-------- I find these are very easy going Chickens, friendly, quite, and very good egg lays, up 300 eggs a year. They do well with other breeds. They do very well in the winter months. 2 of my girls went broody at the same time and sat in the same nest together, they would take turns giving each other a break to eat and drink, they even sat on other chickens eggs and raised the other chickens chicks. They also make great moms. The Roos to me are more quieter than other breeds. I would recommend Australorps to newbies and someone wanting to add to there flock
