Our original coop was UGLY...it was found on our property, hidden in the woods. We thought we would just dismember it and relocate it add some sides, etc... We decided we did not like that and so we started from scratch. Our property also had a concrete slab which we planned to build on top of.... Well, we started the demolition of the original coop that was on our property. There were just too many things wrong with it to try to salvage it. First off, poor construction led to most of the wood being rotted. All of the roofing was rotted, however we were able to save the 2x4 studs. The entire coop was open to the elements so it wasn't really conducive to what we were looking for. Today is day 2 of my "getting to know you" time at BYC. I am enjoying every moment of it, and I must confess, I am getting more and more excited about having chickens. I am past the excitement of saving money on eggs and knowing where my eggs come from. I am now excited to enter into the chickens as a "Pet" category. My husband is cautioning me that while they can be my pets...their primary purpose is to lay eggs and provide us fertilizer for our garden. <sigh> I would love to have...
