A bit about my quail and a few notes on raising them. My Quail are happy quail. They are fat and sassy and get tons of treats. I keep my birds in a 5'x5'x7' aviary with a tin roof. The rest is open aside from a small section that has plywood sides to keep them out of the wind when they choose. They have several hiding places and a row of enclosed nesting boxes at one end, but they don't seem...

Here we have the Second Annual New Years Hatchalong. Though it may have started out small it has now grown and quickly. There are currently 124 members that joined in on the fun. It's been a lot of fun participating and posting. So much has happened I gave up trying to keep up with it all, so I'll summarize briefly. Mahonri started a thread for New Years Hatchalong. It started with about 5 or 6 people and, almost overnight it seems, the number of people grew to more than 100. We all set eggs...

I have decided to keep a small journal of my chicken life and all the other happenings here on the farm.I love my Chickens! 1-22-11/ The Chalky Egg Saga Continues Today was a fairly ordinary day. I got another chalky egg from my Coturnix hen. I'm not sure which hen is the culprit, but I've gotten about 5 chalky eggs now and I can't figure out why I've been getting them. I've also noticed that these eggs are a darker brown than they normally are. I'm sure the eggs are still fertile and...
