My name is Deena. I am a nurse and lactation consultant and I am trainging to become a midwife. In July of 2010, I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. I have had 3 surgeries and had chemo and radiation I am finsihed with my chemo treatments and had a Clean CT scan.
After my first surgery we moved into my parent's house and they moved into their guest house. We are helping them with the bills and my mom is helping me with my children if I am sick, though I have done well.
I have 7 children, 5 still at home. Since the cancer, I started looking into a better diet, which included many organic things. I was tired of paying high prices for eggs and still not sure where they were coming from. We have had many animals growing up and my mother loves animals as much as me. We decided together to start raising chickens.
We built a coop together and was given two hens. An Easter Egger (Olive Egger) named Pamela and a Dark Cornish named Gertrude. They are great layers and we have really enjoyed them. We have since added several more chickens (you know chicken math!) Hover your mouse over the picture for their name!
