Banana is a very healthy food to give your flock. And if you are worried they won't eat it and saying: 'If I give them a banana and they don't touch it, it will be wasted.' No, almost all chickens eat banana.....even if it is "a little ripe" as the saying goes. ;) So give your chickens this healthy treat to keep them from getting bored. And this will also help keep feather picking far away.

    Just a few tips though,

    1. Don't give this until all the chickens in your flock have eaten a good amount of their real protein chicken feed.

    2. If you NEED to give them banana in the morning them make sure you mostly don't feed anything else except chicken feed the rest of the day.

Here are a few pictures of my flock enjoying banana. (Please excuse me if some of the pictures are blurry.)

One serving of banana contains 110 calories, 30 grams of carbohydrate and 1 gram of protein. Bananas are naturally free of fat, cholesterol, and sodium. Bananas provide a variety of vitamins and minerals: Vitamin BC - 0.5 mg.

Also, "@the cluck juggler" said that she/he heard that birds don't like banana that has dirt on it. I'm not sure if that it true or not because my chickens eat banana with dirt. They don't think anything of it.

If its the right time for you, then go outside and share some of this delicious treat with your flock!

Good written inspirational article. Not only chickens love bananas, there is nothing better than a mashed banana, mixed with some apple juice and sugar to nurse a half-dead duckling back to life.
Grown up ducks go bananas for bananas too!

You are right, but in this article I was talking about chickens, not ducks.

This short piece alerts readers to that fact that chickens can and do eat bananas. It would be improved by more detail, e.g. on what nutritional value bananas have for them.

I've found that birds don't want to eat banana if it's in the dirt. I usually cut part of the shell away, and use the rest sort of like a bowl so the banana will stay dirt-free. Or just cut it into small pieces and serve in an actual bowl. It's not their favorite treat, but they eat it.

I just peel a banana and toss it in the run. They don't care if its dirty or not.
