Since I was a 5 year old with an Easter chick I wanted to raise chickens. Everywhere I lived would not allow chickens, until I moved to rural Northern New Hampshire. Finally, we got our first flock of Rhode Island Reds during the first week of May this year. Unfortunately, a predator got to all of them, except one who is now tagged and named Matilda. We managed to purchase more chicks and took extreme precautions to keep them safe. We have 13 Rhode Island Red, including a surprise rooster, and 3 Barred Blacks. They are getting big, just eating machines, they are, and will be laying, I hope, in a month or so.
