Hello fellow chicken lovers!
This article is to share my accomplishments (with the amazing help of my Dad {and occasionally my husband too}) of building a beautiful home to accommodate all my girls and allow for possible expansion in the future. Hopefully, this will provide inspiration for all you chicken parents to build a coop for your lovelies.
I have included progress photos of our daily accomplishments, spread out over a couple of months.
We also had the building inspector come by after completion due a neighbour’s complaint because we pushed the limits of the building dimensions by adding a “porch” that was not enclosed but did have a roof overhang, thus was later removed to observe city bylaws and ordinances.
There are plans to modify things as needed and the roost has had a few modifications so far, but I’m proud of the home we built for the chickens.
In the new year I plan to renovate the inside by adding trim and paint, additional roosts, storage for chicken paraphernalia, a brooder, small playpen for babies and of course a chandelier. And on the outside we will be adding a garden bed around the front, planter boxes, refilling the yard with dirt and grass seed and building fodder boxes. The landscape took quite a lot of abuse this year.
I will probably add once I’ve had time to calculate the total investment of the coop build.
I hope you all enjoy and I look forward to sharing more chicken stories with you all!
