Finally have some home hatched chicks in the brooder! A grey Silkie was the first on Saturday April 9. I wasn't at home and he was just hangin' out in there when I got home! Fantastic! The second is an EE I helped hatch on Monday the 11 of April. He/she is huge and the membrane was VERY white and (gross) thick. I really don't think it would have made it out on it's own - big chick stuck. So out of the 30 eggs I've set in the last two months, 2 have hatched. I blame the home made incubator I was using. I've got a little Hova-Bator now that apparently does the trick! I'm sure with what I've learned I'll improve my hatch rate.
