The Columbian Rock

The Columbian Rock remains a popular choice for those wanting a good dual purpose bird. With their white with black lacing on the necks and black tails they are an attractive bird. The colour is not much unlike the popular Light Sussex. The hens are average layers of beige coloured eggs. Their quite temperment and occasional broodiness make them a good choice for small holders.

Hens weigh close to 6 lbs at point of lay and roosters slightly heavier. Their pink flesh make them a popular meat bird. A popular first cross available at many hatchery's is crossing the Colombian Rock with the popular Rhode Island Red. The resulting chicks can be sexed by color with the hens being red and roosters white.
