This is our first go with chickens, and we sure are enjoying it! We have 9 total (LB, BO, SLW, GSL, BSL, 2 RIR, and 2 BR).
I got ideas on sizes and such from this site, of course, and also google images of coops. I drew up the plans, but we found someone locally to build it for us. He did such a great job!! Our coop is 8' x 6', with a roof slant of 6' to 4' for snowfall.

The front wall has two screened windows that open for ventilation and provide lots of sunshine.
Top right- Vent window covered in hardwire
Bottom right- Access door to the under roost area for me to clean
Left- Access door to the four nesting boxes for eggs
The rear wall also has a vent window covered in hardwire

Bottom center- The chicken door to run area
The roost area is completely enclosed with hardwire to keep the girls from walking underneath and being pooped on. I think they appreciate that!

Found this waterer ad in Chickens magazine. At cheerychicks.com, it has nipples on bottom and easy to hang. Keeps water clean. The chicks figured it out right away, I was quite suprised.
Hanging feeder also, and the heat lamp is tucked in the corner with cords out of the way.
The attached run is also 8' x 6' with extended roof. The run is just while they are small and when we are not home. Our plan is to allow them to free range within a chain link area of our property when we are home. This was their first day outside and they just loved it! I pulled up a chair and watched for a long time, great entertainment!
