So myself, my wife Emily, and two daughters, 2.5yo Lillian, and 7mths Minna Lani. We live in St Petersburg, FL, on the water, where we never have to suffer the woes of a bitter cold winter. I built a 300sqft Aviary around our coop, to allow our chickens some running room, when they cant free range the yard, due to get togethers, or our to dogs are utilizing the yard (They want to eat the hens, erg.) When the do get to free range, twice a day for a few hours, they go crazy chasing bugs and eating everything green. Our "Flock" if you will, consists of 5, to include a:
Barred Rock named "Tik" 4months old
Gold Wyandotte named "Snickers" 3 months old
Silver Wyandotte named "Splash" 3 months old
Blue Wyandotte named "Nugget" 4 months old
Blue Red Laced Wyandotte named "Lil Bird" 4 months old
Australorp currently unnamed, 3 months old
Ameraucana currently unnamed, 3 months old
all of which were named by our 2 1/2yo, Lillian. All the girls follow Lilly around, waiting for her to turn stones, pavers, and bricks, for some delicious bugs. Lil Bird by far eats more bugs faster than any of the other 4 girls, by 100%, its really impressive how fast she finds and eats them. Splash and Snickers, are still a little intimidated by the 3, 4 months girls, as they were only introduced a week or so ago. But their starting to become friends slowly.

So far, this has been the greatest thing ever, we all really and truly enjoy watching the hens grow, we love to hand feed them and chase them around the yard. We're still waiting for our first egg at this point, and I seriously cant wait for Lilly to find it, as she looks everyday, both morning and night. I hide the wooden eggs, as practice for her on collecting the eggs, with her little copper woven basket. So now its just a fun playtime waiting game...
