My flock of 10 turned into 16 a few weeks ago. My affection for my girls and 'Bird is just never ending. I can not imagine living without them, nor life before them.

Here are my 6 hens and 'Bird.

my famous 'Bird. The BEST rooster in the world. He is a 3 year old Red Sex Link

He's such a good and trusting boy. Every year he gets dressed up for halloween. This is this years costume.

He came to work with me for a day. The Ohio State Extension office next door to me was having a poultry education class, and 'Bird jumped at the chance to show off in front of 100 people and show off. He let the people pet him, feel his feathers, wattles, etc. He was sooo good!

'Bird luv......

He trusts me unconditionally. Lets me hug him all the time.

I was weeding and he decided that he wanted to take a nap on my head! Then found a piece of dirt in my hair and discovered my eyebrows. I just love this picture. He is so gentle. Just a tiny little 'tap' . "Mommaaaaa hey Momma!!!!"

He is so kind with his girls too. He was showing Kassidy the nest! Gee 'Bird, she already knows about it. Obviously

Kisses from my big guy!!!! from my shoulder where he often jumps up onto.

Just my big lug and I enjoying a spring day last month. He is so proud when he flys up onto my shoulder. Just stands so tall and proud.

This year he went to PetSmart to visit with Santa. He was an angel in the car. Rode like it was a daily occurance. Once the picture with Santa was done the APL that was hosting it asked me to stick around with him. The people that came in just thought he was the best! He sat on the cart bar and I pushed him around the store looking at stuff. This is when I found out that he loved cat treats. The numerous kids that were in awe was just awesome. They all came up to pet him and check him out. I did more education that day about chickens to them than I have ever thought possible. 'Bird let them all feel his wattles and comb and feet and feathers. It was just so cool.

'Bird has many representative items around my home. lol

He's such a photo hog.

He was NOT happy about this. lol

And he didn't even poop on hubbys workbench!

Or my car.

Or my other car. lololol

"Bird models his new coat.

Halloween 2011. He is just such a ham. Didn't even flinch. maybe he was just in to much shock?????

Really, just true love.

Look at him as a baby!!!!!! and he was supposed to be a pullet... yea right. He is the best mistake I have ever had.

halloween 2010

He protects his girls soooo well! they always come first.

Guess what????

"Yea, I'm a stud muffin and know it"

Daytona was his best friend. He protected her like nothing else. I lost Daytona in the Spring of 2013 from internal laying.

And these are the Fluffy Butts!

This is Peaches and the Princess. My 2 White Cochins

Such good girls as well.

This is Hope. She wa a rescue from a farm that I stuck under my coat when I was visiting. She has come a long way since October 2012 when I brought her home. She has recently passed, but I can not take her photos down yet. I just can't.

These are the day I brought her home to live with me. I really dont think she had more than a day or two left to live in those conditions.

These two photos are of her after 5 months of care. Still no feathers under her wings, but 50% of her back and 90% of her breast feathers have come back.

This was 2 months of her with me with no coat! back feathers starting.Tail feathers coming in.

These are when I had her in quarantene on her private side of the coop. The first month with me. She was spoiled rotten (still is)

As of April 8th, 2012 she now has a million pin feathers coming in!

Unflortunately, I lost her a few weeks after that photo. RIP Hope, I gave you the best chance you could ever ask for. You will be missed.

This is Kassidy, my Americauna

She is really flighty and HUGE. weighs a ton. She was a Meyers chick as are my Cochins.

Maggie and Midge. Two White Rocks that I adopted from a pair of folks from the city that were tyring to raise them and got caught. I brought them home in August this year. Another 'rescue' so to speak. They were well cared for though. The owners were going to dispose of them if they couldnt find them a home. Found them on Craigs List by accident. These two are so hearty and healthy! leave me an egg all day even through this winter! Such talkers they are too.

Let me introduce you to the newest members!

Victoria and Elizabeth. White Sultans. I have never had Sultans before. I thought with all the education that I use my girls and 'Bird for, these two might be the perfect ones to share with other people.

This is Victoria at 6 1/2 weeks old! She is just the most inquisitive thing. And such a ham. Photo hog for sure too.

This is them at 2 days old on Feb. 6,2012. Such chick bliss!

From day one I start working with them to socialize and become friendly with people. Me especially.

As of 7/13 Victoria has started to lay daily! The as still the most wonderful girls. So mellow and inquisitive!

This is Leah and Eleanor - Blue Laced Red Wyandotts.

6 weeks old on the 18th of March

I cant belive how good my cat Ashley is with them.

And last but not least, this is Diesel and Dana my 2 Bardrocks.

I have to add a section in here for my two rescues from the Buffalo NY SPCA. In 2010, I was looking for a few new hens to add to my flock and stumbled on a webpage from the animal protective league that had a hen for adoption. After i talked to them, I made the 150 mile trip from Ohio up to Buffalo to get her. When I got there, they showed me the one red hen and were fussing over a second hen. I asked to see her and fell immediatly in love with this little girl. She had been debeaked on the upper part of her beak, but not the bottom. She was scrawny, pale, but had this face that I will never forget. I immediatly scooped them both up and made the 150 mile trip home with the girls I named Elly and May (Ellymay from the Clampets?) I lost Elly in the summer of 2012. She passed in my arms. I do not know how old she was, But at least she had the last 2 years of her life being pampered.

MayMay? now that's a spooky one. MayMay had some health issues from day one, but we always were able to nurse her through them. She ate fine, drank fine, etc. even with the malfored beak. She left me one tiny egg the day after I brought her home. Only one and never again. She passed away in my arms on the day that I rescued the above mentioned hen named Hope. Thus the meaning of my signature line - "God brought me Hope the day he took my MayMay" MayMay was my best friend, my #1girl. She was unlike any other chicken or pet that I have ever had in my 43 years on earth. I will miss her dearly. I buried her at the head of my coop with an angel as her headstone to watch over everyone.

this is MayMay

WIth the messed up beak, she could not preen some spots, I had brought her in to give her a bath from some mess.

She liked to drive in my truck with me. McDonalds always gave her a treat or two. Cheeseburgers? What cheeseburgers????

She became so healthy and happy.

She never really attched to any of the others in the flock. Never fought with anyone, but was always a loner. Maybe that's why she attached to me so good. It was her and I from day one. 'Bird loved her too.

This was a month after I brought her home.

She really relaxed in her bath. I think she liked it.

I had to blow dry her to make her pretty after her bath. She so enjoyed the attention.

This picture is the day I brought her home in the car. Look how pale and skinny she is.

A year later? look at what a difference.
