Very simple design based off an old barn. The building's elevated window faces the east so that the earliest rays from the sun fill the coop. Depending on how many birds you would like to keep, this coop can be made very small or very big. The loftiness inside also lends itself to quality venting which is so important in any coop construction.

I built this coop using old, weathered, and recycled materials so that it would appear to be much older. I chose a typical barn red and added some fun chicken décor. My coop is next to my small pond and I added a deck to it on the water side. A "run" area is on the other side and gives the chickens lots of room when they are not out free ranging. The hens love it!

This coop has an 8' x8' floor plan. The roof is stick framed with a 12/12 pitch.

Craigslist is always a good place to hunt down cheap building supplies. Including the doors and window.

Fair warning to those who enter!

Every hen house needs to be guarded by a fox! Chicken décor is best found on eBay.
