These are my chickens. I currently have a flock of 24 chickens. Two roosters, thirteen hens and nine pullets.

This is the "Alpha" of the flock, Randy.
He is almost two years old, and he is a Rhode Island Red.
He doesn't like to be touched or handled, but he is an amazing and sweet rooster, and he takes excellent care of the hens.

This is Rodney.
He is 1 year old, and he is a Rhode Island Red.
He is currently at the bottom of the pecking order, because he and Randy don't get along very well.
Rodney seems to think I am his hen. He likes to dance around my feet and he follows me everywhere. He loves getting his picture
taken and being held. He is one of the sweetest roosters I have ever had the pleasure of owning.

This is Ginger. She is a New Hampshire Red. She is approximately 5 years old. She got very sick this winter, and we thought she was
going to pass away. Her comb and waddles shrunk and she stopped eating and drinking. As soon as the weather warmed
up, her comb and waddles grew back and she is back to perfect health. It's a miracle she is alive today.

(shes the chicken laying down in the front)

This is Emo Chicken. She is a Rhode Island Red.
She is approximately 5 years old. She used to be at the bottom of the pecking order two years ago,
and she lived in the front of my barn by herself. My family started calling her Emo Chicken and the nickname just stuck.
She gets along great with the other chickens now.

This is Frannie. She is approximately 5 years old. She is the only Rhode Island Red hen that has ever gone
broody for me. Sadly I couldn't give her any eggs to hatch at the time. She is an absolute sweetheart. Her and
Randy are like best buds.

This is Coraline. She is a Buff Orpington, and she is approximately 5 years old. She has gone broody 4 times in the last 2 years.
She is the mother of both of my roosters, and 5 of my hens. Even though I can't handle or touch her, she is a very sweet hen.

This is Shelby. She is approximately 5 years old, and she is a Buff Orpington. Last summer she hatched 4 chicks.
Two of my hens are hers. Despite her age, she still lays a large light brown eggs almost every day.

(she's the hen in the front)

This is Ruby. She is approximately 5 years old, and she is a Buff Orpington. She went broody two years ago and
hatched two chicks. She had one of the biggest combs I have ever seen on a Buff Orpington.

This is Chicken Little. She is 1 year old and she is a Buff Orpington/Rhode Island Red. She almost died as a chick. Her mom
(Shelby) stopped sitting on her egg when she was in the process of hatching. We ended up having to help her out of the egg, and
my mom sat with her wrapped in a heat pad and a towel for 6 hours trying to keep her alive. She is my little mischief maker. She loves
to wander. I usually have to chase her back to the barn every day because she likes to go to my neighbors yard and by the road.

This is Demi. She is Chicken Little's sister. She is 1 year old, and she is a Rhode Island Red. She is very vocal.
Every morning she sits on the roosts and makes tons of racket. She's louder than my roosters most days. She is also
quite the little adventurist.

(she's the hen in the front)

This is Sabrina. She is 1 year old and she is a Rhode Island Red. She has a very large comb as well.
She is very laid back and she doesn't get into much trouble.

This is Avalanna. She is 1 year old and she is a Rhode Island Red. I named her after a 6 year old girl who passed
away from a very rare form of brain cancer. Avalanna is the only hen I have who refuses to lay her eggs in the nest boxes.
Instead she likes to lay them in a cat box in the loft of my barn.

(she is the second hen on the left)

This is Betty. She is almost two years old, and she is a Rhode Island Red.
She loves to peck my hands when she sits on the roosts, and she is very vocal.
After she lays her eggs she sings the egg song, but she sings it twice as loud as any of the other hens.
She also likes to freak out over every little strange noise that she hears, which sets off all of the other chickens. She's on the verge of
molting right now.

(she's the hen on the far right)

(she's the hen on the right)

This is Katie. She is almost two years old, and she is part Buff Oprington/Rhode Island Red. She used to be a really big mischief maker
like Chicken Little when she was young. She lays a light brown egg every day in the exact same nest box. If her nest box is ever taken,
she starts freaking out and crams herself into the nest box anyways. She has quite the little personality.

(that's her in her favorite nest box)

This is Henny. She is my special needs hen. She is approximately 5 years old, and she is a New Hampshire red.
She is half blind in both eyes, and she can't jump. So she sleeps in the nest boxes every night. She also has some brain
damage. All of my 5 year old hens used to be my grandfathers, and he didn't take good care of his chickens. He had about 40 chickens
crammed into a coop that shouldn't have had more than 15 chickens in it. He only cleaned the coop about once per year, and he didn't use
shavings. So his chickens all lived in their own manure. This caused most of his hens to have some severe problems and diseases.
Which is what caused Henny to be the way she is. Several times now she has been on the verge of death, and yet she always pulls
through. She loves to be loved on and held. She lays a large brown egg with dark brown speckles almost every day. She is the best and
sweetest hen I have ever had.

This is Ellie. She is a 6 week old Easter Egger from Meyer Hatchery. She is quite the camera hog. Anytime I try to take pictures of the other chicks, she runs in front of the camera. She is also very vocal and sweet.

This is Amber. She is a 6 week old Easter Egger from Meyer Hatchery. She is very skittish and likes to act like she is the boss of all of the other chicks. For a while I thought she was a cockerel because of her behavior, but now I'm starting to think she's really a pullet.

(she's the one in the middle)

This is Daffodil. She is a 6 week old Buff Orpington from Meyer Hatchery. She loves to perch on my arms or my shoulders, and
sometimes even my head! She also likes to try and peck at my teeth or any cuts or scabs I have on my hands and arms. Despite how
cute and small she is, she pecks HARD!

This is Sunni. She is a 6 week old Buff Orpington from Meyer Hatchery. She is a little on the small side and she is very calm. I thought
she was a cockerel for a while too because of her slow feather growth, and her feet used to be a lot bigger than the other Buff Orpington.
But she has caught up in size and feather growth now, and she doesn't look anything like a cockerel to me.

This is Annie. She is a 6 week old White Leghorn from Meyer Hatchery. She is very sweet, but very flighty. She loves to jump up on the
edge of the brooder when I open the lid, and then usually jumps as far and high as she can onto the car in the garage, the post that the
heat lamp hangs on, etc. I just keep telling myself that at least she's easy to catch!

This is Alice. She is a 6 week old White leghorn from Meyer Hatchery. She is very calm and not at all flighty. Her and Annie are almost
identical, so I have to use zip ties/cable ties on their legs to tell them apart from each other. I named her Alice from the movie Alice In
Wonderland, because she is very adventurous just like the Alice in the movie. I have never had Leghorns before, but I am so glad I got some
this year. My Leghorns are very sweet and fun to watch. I look forward to their many white eggs too!

This is Lilly. She is a 6 week old Black Australorp from Meyer Hatchery. She is very skittish and hard to catch and get pictures of, but
she is very pretty and fun to watch. She is starting to trust me a bit more and she does climb onto my hands. She just isn't much of a
people loving chick.

This is Lizzie. She is a 6 week old Golden Campine from Meyer Hatchery. She is VERY flighty and skittish. I always joke with my family
that I need a net or something for when she gets out of the brooder, because she is fast and almost impossible to catch. Her beautiful looks
make up for it though
big_smile.png
Because of her flightiness, I don't have many recent pictures of her.

and this is Lucy. She is a 6 week old Golden Campine from Meyer Hatchery. She is very gentle and sweet compared to her sister. Her and
Lizzie are also almost exactly identical, so Lucy wears a zip tie/cable tie on her leg. Lucy was very skittish and flighty at first too, but
over the past 2 weeks she has become extremely sweet and calm.

Thanks for viewing the pictures and short stories of my chickens!
