My little flocks antics keep me entertained daily, and keep me working to get the back from across the road or up a tree. And their crowing keep carol service wakes me up each morning.
Wellie is the queen of my land. If there is food to be had, she gets first pick. Even the roosters tremble before her. She is a medium sized hen who is very friendly, but is a fighter. She acts almost like a shamo or malay because she never backs down In a fight. When a rooster is absent she does start cocking. This means she mounts the other hens and starts acting like a rooster. Her best friends are Miffy and Buffy. They all tend to stick together when they get let out. Dottie tends to stick with Miffy and she sticks with her own two babies Apple and Pear. Apple and Pear are sisters that are inseparable. They stick together like glue and where one goes the other goes. The rooster of their little flock is Tintin. He is a Frizzled welsummer/Frizzle cross. He is quite big and cave be over amorous. He is also very funny to watch rush about the orchard in his wobbling fashion.
Sparta is the lead rooster of my second flock. He is caring and great at finding food and looking out for predators. He is boss of all the flocks apart from wellie. He can be a bit aggressive if you upset his hens and is a bit wild. His favourite hen is honey. She is very friendly and boss hen of her group. She is a great flyer and good at finding food. Her sister Goldy always sticks with her and loves to dust bathe and catch bugs. She has just laid her first egg recently . She is quite flighty and shy. Whinnie is bottom of that flock. She is shy and very distractible. She will often be eating some tasty morsel and the flock will move away. When she looks up and realises she is separated she doesn't call like a normal hen. She simply finds another flock and follows them. She is getting braver and tamer each day.
Phelix is boss of my third flock. He is a small bird with a long tail. He is second in command after Sparta out of all my birds but not over wellie. He has a a lot of courage and loves his hens. If he gets separated he will call and call until they are back. He is a great flyer which comes in handy when Sparta chases him about and he has to take refuge in a tree. Pebbles is his favourite hen and she sticks by him no matter what. If u seep rat her from him she screams so loud I wouldn't be surprised if people in the next county could hear her. She is a brilliant flyer, and can fly onto the roof of my house with ease. She is only recently learning to fly into trees to get away from other birds as she is bottom of all my chickens. I use to have a silkie cross rooster but he attacked her and ripped all the skin of the back of her neck so we ate him. She is just finishing healing over, she is friendly and I often trip up over her. Amber is a little bit more wild and whenever trouble occurs she takes to the trees. She loves bug hunting and dashes about after them. Their is a pair of Silver laced Wyandottes with the Phoenix who will soon be moving in with Spartas flock. The rooster is Jack Frost. He is also a very tame rooster. He sticks close to his girlfriend. He doesn't run about he gallops. Which is very funny to watch. He is a typical teenager and constantly try's his luck with the hens. He once got too cocky with wellie and paid the price. Beat him onto the floor before he got up and galloped off. SnowFlake is his girl friend and she loves to run about. She is less tame than him but is still lovely to be around.
