I have a mixed flock that I started early last spring. All but 1 of my chickens I hatched in an old Hova-bator given to me by my Grampa.
This is my very bestest girl, Annie-Belle. She hatched with a sealed left eye which she eventually scratched open but it has never been fully functioning. I can tell she doesn't have good sight on that side because she is always a bit off aim when pecking small food bits. I don't have the heart to tell her she's a rooster. I found her one day lying on the ground in her tractor run. It had been raining over night and her coop mates were walking all over her. She was covered in mud and muck and I thought she was dead until I pulled her out by her legs. She was alive, but barely. I brought her in the house, bathed her, dried her, wrapped her in a towel and held her so she could die peacefully. I offered her liquid vitamins in water by dropper and, long story short, her coop mates would not accept her back so she's my permanent house chicken. She's a Polish/silkie mix and is bantam sized. She's about 6 months old and crowed for the first time ever about 5 days ago. It was the most pitiful thing I've heard in a long time.

This is 7 month old Polish/silkie mix, Supa-Sexy (for obvious reasons).

Fancy Pants, a 7 month old GLP.

This is Sally the First. 8 month old Dominique.

This is Fussy. Polish/silkie hen. She's a little girl.

This is Emu. When he was a chick, it took him forever and a day to grow his feathers in. He looked like a tiny black emu. Now he's the big boy of the yard.

This is Homegirl. JG.

Fuzzy Butt and Show-Stopper getting ready for bed.

Tinsel Top, Supa-Sexy, one of the Tinsel Twins and Goldie-Pops (who refused to face the camera).

This is Little-Bit. I have no idea how that tiny mutant chicken came from the Polish/silkie eggs I hatched. She's about the size of a small pigeon. Go figure.

Goldie-Pops is a hardcore sun-bather.

Mr. Pecker is a camera shy Sizzle mix.

Wooly-Bully. His name says it all.

Emu and his Sallys. Sally the First on the left and Sally the Second on the right. I couldn't tell the girls apart for the longest time so I named them both Sally.

The Tinsel-Twins.

One of the Tinsel-Twins soaking up the sun.

First diaper fitting session. I lifted her up by the elastic straps in the back and started to sway her a bit and she dropped her head. I think she decided she WAS NOT going to participate in this nonsense.

She eventually accepted the cold hard truth of diaper-duty.

I also got stink eye from the button quail this morning after they learned I hadn't included them in my "chicken page".

I love love love my mixed flock! We live on 1.5 acres in the foothills of NC. I'm lucky enough to be able to let my chickens free range during the day. I never knew they would be the most fun pets I've ever had!
