Hello everyone!

If you are reading this, there is a high chance that you came from the "Cream Legbars" or "Cream Legbars Working Group: Standard of Perfection" threads, or perhaps you are new to the breed, an enthusiast, unsure of which line to buy, etc. Anyhow, welcome one and all!!

This page's main purpose is to document the growth of both lines. I'll also be taking pictures of their eggs when they reach the point of lay.
Hopefully this will help someone out if they're deciding between the two! For those new to poultry: please remember that just because my birds turned out a certain way, yours may not! This is just a reference and there are many different factors that could attribute to how your chicks grow up even if they originated from the same place.

I had the utmost pleasure to purchase these chicks from Secret Hills Ranch, located in San Diego, CA. Living in the suburbs surround Los Angeles, I am limited to perhaps two locations where I can actually purchase chicks. I decided to take the plunge and mail order these babes because although I'm new to poultry, I've always had an endless fascination with "rare" breeds. Cream Legbars are relatively new in the United States poultry scene, and were first imported by Greenfire Farms in 2010, but are quickly gaining popularity! What's there not to love? Beautiful silver, indistinctly barred plumage with salmon chests, gorgeous large light blue eggs, and that puffy, adorable, kooky little crest that they majestically carry right next to their combs.

(For more information on the breed and it's standard of perfection, please refer to: http://www.CreamLegbarClub.com/)

As I was saying, I was fortunate enough to order these chicks from SHR who has stock from many separate lines.
Taken directly from their web page: "
We are very proud to have Cream Legbars from the first Greenfire Farms Import, Curtis Hale XL Egg Bloodlines, Cream Legbar Club Western Region Director Kristin Rye and from Greenfire Farms Import From England of Championship Jill Rees Cream Leg Bars."

Upon payment, I was asked if I wanted a Jill Rees line (Greenfire Farms) or Curtis Hale's line, who is known amongst aficianado's of this breed as a great contributor, since he breeds, shows (and wins, mind you

) excellent birds. Now of course, the way chicken math works, I ended up with two of each!

Before I post pictures, I'd like to say that I was a bit disappointed when I received the first three chicks because of their auto sexing qualities. I was really looking for a chick that has crisp, unbroken line down it's head. I ended up ordering a second batch of chicks and this time, requested for a chick with a bold, continuous line running down its noggin. Thankfully, she obliged!

For the other three, please remember that I will not be breeding these chicks and they are just pets! However, I'd like to quote this post taken directly from "Cream Legbars Working Group: Standard of Perfection" from the ever so sweet and knowledgeable ChicKat when I expressed my disdain and concern:

and here is a slightly enhanced photo back from the days of Pease:
So I ask you to please have an open mind, as they are still chicks and of course we all know, we cannot tell how they'd look as adults yet. Technically, although their auto sexing qualities are not great, they still possess the quality and that alone, fulfills the standard.

For the sake of making it easier on me, I have grouped them all as one age but some of them are a few days younger/older than the others.

Without further ado,

Week One:

Dakota - Curtis Hale line (Rest in Peace)

Dakota - Curtis Hale line (Rest in Peace)

With a heavy heart, I'd like to report that Dakota has passed away. She was shipped to me on October 7th, 2015 and was a vivacious little girl. For some reason, today she barely moved the whole day and although I gave her Save-A-Chic in water then syringe fed her blended fermented starter with the same Save-A-Chic water, she passed. I even gave her some crushed garlic with a bit of yolk, in hopes that it will fight whatever bacteria could've been harming her, if that's why she passed. I only have chicks from the same breeder in that brooder and everyone else is very healthy, so I am utterly confused. I only had her for one day, but she was one of my favorites. Rest in Peace, sweet girl.

^ She has passed and it was not because of my wrong doing. SHR sent me a weak chick and they have all been dying for reasons I cannot control.
I will continue to document the other two chicks although I am so heartbroken.

Week One, Four Days:

Khaleesi: 01.9 Ounces - Curtis Hale line

^ Please excuse my dog being a creeper. He loves baby chicks.. perhaps a little too much.
Anyways, I absolutely love the little crest forming on this one! It's so adorable!

Eden: 01.5 Ounces - Jill Rees line

^ This one is much more tame than the other one. I like it's coloring more as I'm hoping it turns out to be more silver.

2 Weeks 1 Day (October 14th, 2015)

Eden: 01.9 Ounces (0.4 Oz Gain) - Jill Rees line

^ Please forgive the mess behind her!

Khaleesi: 02.4 Ounces (0.5 Oz Gain) - Curtis Hale line

^ Surprisingly, at first when I got her, I was a bit worried because she has a reddish tint to her. My doubts were solidified when someone on the CL forum told me their
chicks with a reddish tint just turned out way too red when they got older. I can't say for her chest, but her wings are a beautiful silver/gray/cream and so far, her feathers are
more agreeable to me than the Rees one. I am excited to see how she grows! I'm in love with her quirky baby crest!

3 weeks 2 days (October 22nd, 2015)

Khaleesi: 13.7 Ounces (11.3 Oz Gain) - Curtis Hale line

Eden: 12.5 Ounces (10.6 Oz Gain) - Jill Rees line

^ Please ignore my furbaby licking his lips, LOL.

If you're interested in seeing how these babes grow up, please check back! I will be updating this daily/weekly!
