It all started with an idea... my idea to raise chickens, much to my wife's delight. We went out to the local animal swap and picked up our first two girls. Kylo Hen (black sex link) and Graceland (silkie).

As is expected, the kids instantly fell in love.

Even Jack liked the chickens from the beginning, and they still seem to really like him.

After a couple weeks we got two new family members, Lucy Hamilton Croissant and Princess Laya (red sex links).

Kylo and Graceland were pretty terrified at first, which is exactly the opposite of what we thought would happen. The 'twins' immediately started treating the older girls as if they were their parents.

Tons of fun, adorable chicks, summertime. Life was good.

It was pretty amazing to see how quickly the chicks were growing. They began looking (and walking) more like dinosaurs. Graceland began showing her fluffy feathers.

Kylo and Graceland still stick together as the oldest sisters.

Kylo was (and currently still is) the biggest of the bunch, and always kind of the leader.

Even Lucy and Laya began looking more chicken-like, but still adorable.

Here's the whole crew, enjoying a day in the garden.

Chicken selfie?

Then, much to the surprise of the kids, we brought home little Charlotte (light brahma).

She is gorgeous, and very friendly. Since the other girls were already so big, they picked on little Charlotte, so she ends up spending most of her time with us. She follows us around like her parents.

The 4 eldest girls look like real chickens, now. Here they are enjoying their new perches.

Poor Graceland can't fly, due to her fluffy feathers. I added a short booster perch to the setup, to help her get up with the others.

UPDATE: 11/9/16

Some new photos of our big girls. It's amazing how quickly they change. The combs and waddles of the sex links have gotten so big, and Charlotte the brahma is so incredibly fluffy.

More to come...
