Mama
Mama (Julia) was our first broody hen along with Emma. We received our chickens (10 total) from some friends moving to Texas, along with our hens we received about 20 fertilized eggs for hatching. Mama a Buff Orpington successfully raised 12 adorable fluffy chicks! She was the head of the pecking order and so kind to us. Sadly she was taken by a raccoon about a little more then a year ago

Oreo
I have to say that I play favorites! And among my chickens Oreo was my favorite chicken EVER! She was one of the 12 chicks that were raised by Mama. She was a Barred Rock bantam. She had a great personality and I loved her so much. She became broody almost 2 years ago and hatched 2 out of 4 eggs. Hers chicks were: Penny and Cookie. Here is a link of her broody troubles: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/791324/broody-hen-with-neck-problem/10#post_11397780. She also always found a way to get out of the pen and free range all day, and that became the death of her. She was left by accident out of the coop and again the raccoon struck.

Elessar
This feisty Old English Bantam rooster was such a character! About 2 years ago we bought 4 OEGB to try them out, 2 out of 4 were roosters and they were the smallest things ever! They were small enough for me to hold them perfectly in one hand. But one day a friend was taking care of them while we were on vacation and let them out by accident (they were very flighty) and there dog came down and scared them in the woods. We never did know what happened to them.

Little Red Hen
This sassy Rhode Island Red had the funniest look when she was mad at you! She never let anyone tell her who was boss except herself. When she laid an egg she needed all the nesting boxes empty so she could have peace and quiet! If you bothered her when she was relaxing you would get the stinky eye and grumpy squawk.

But one night she was found dead in the pen in October 2014.

My only good picture of her.
Luthian and Caroke
Other wise known a Lucy. She was one of the 4 bantams we bought 2 years ago as an experiment. She was very small and flighty. she laid 1-4 eggs a month and they were a little bigger then half dollar. She was let loose by accident and was found dead with fallen branch on her back. Now caroke which is Irish for "Chicken" was the same size but laid 2-5 eggs a month. She was just as flighty as Lucy. She was also like Lucy's older sister, always keeping her in line! She also was let loose on that frightful day, but never was found.

Chipmunk
Chipmunk was the last hen of our first flock. She was killed/eaten by some animal yesterday (1/15/15) I will miss her always!

She hated cameras (LOL). She was starting to become blind, she lost one of her claws, and was really old. Chipmunk would always go to bed an hour before everyone else.

Emma
Sadly I don't have a picture of her

. She was mama's broody mate. She always wanted to raise some chicks, she died one night because she was accidentally left out, she was killed trying to protect her eggs from a raccoon.
