This chick here suffers from an embryonic injury that causes its lower beak to not develop properly, normally this type of deformation occurs with inbred flocks. However I use very dedicated programs that 98% of the time include as much outbreeding as possible to such an extent that I trade roosters with other breeders every 1.5 to 2 years. I even assist chicks during their piping period should they exhibit unusual signs. This little one was supposed to hatch 2 days earlier but all it did was barely manage to crack the egg and kept squeaking for two days. That’s when I interfered and noticed something unusual. The blood was absorbed but the chick had the tip of its wing inside its mouth which caused the lower beak to not develop properly and also prevented the chick from hatching naturally on its own.

This is so far the second time I deal with this sort of problem first time was a decade ago the younger less experienced me didn’t help the chick hatch so it died. This time however I helped this one hatch successfully. Wether it’s deformed beak will hinder its chances of survival or not will take time to tell.
