I built this chicken coop in the last couple of weeks. We will be getting rhode island red pullets this weekend 4/6/12 it will be our first time trying to raise some chickens and hopefully get some eggs. I took ideas from other coops on this site and mixed them up to get this design. And i must say that i'm happy with it in the end. We live in Rhode island so i'm hoping this design will be both cool in summer and warm in winter.I have a few other vents on the other side which will help in summer

thanks everyone ! the chickens are doing well ,last night for the first time they all slept together on the first time on the roost so i was happy about that. I'm hoping next weeks good weather will allow me to give them more supervised free range time.

We got layers for my son. Didn't realize the whole family would love them so much. We even raise meat chickens and ornamentals now. Good luck!

This is great - I'm particularly envious that it took only a "couple of weeks" to build :) - it took me longer to build my coop/run than to renovate my kitchen!!! Looks like your chickens will have a wonderful place to live, good luck raising those Rhode Island Reds!
