I searched the internet for days trying to decide how to design my coop. I felt like if I was going to be building a structure I wanted to kill two birds with one stone (maybe not at good phrase here) and get both a coop and a shed out of it. I couldn't find anything like it so I got to the drawing pad and started to put down my thoughts. I am very happy with my final product and I don't know that I would do anything different. The Coop area is 4 x 8 and the shed area is 12 x 8 (so the whole shed is 16 x 8). My chickens are all happy and we love our wonderful eggs they give us! We got most of our supplies from the local habitat for humanity store as well as from a generous builder who had left over supplies that he was going to bring to a second hand store. I don't know the final cost of the project, but it was quite reasonable. Enjoy my pictures.

The babies we brought home...

they grow so quickly

some of the coop framing, window in the back and vent on the side

the left side of the structure is a shed, the right side is the coop, every wall is insulated.

they finally get to move out of the box and into their new home

they like to sleep all together in on of the nesting boxes

pre-siding, most of the supplies were reclaimed, habitat for humanity, and surplus materials.

not sure if chickens like her better or if she likes them better-hours of endless fun, and she can get them back in the coop the easiest

siding was all given to us from a builders' leftovers.

they later got a better play structure, but this temporary one worked for a while.

the top of the nesting box opens up for quick cleaning and then front opens for egg removal

This is looking inside the coop-shed door. We get some cold weather, so I wanted entry to the top (birds sleep) and bottom (food water) to be from inside the shed.

This is the top

this is the bottom-I can refill food/water from either this way or around the outside from in the pen.

this is the shed side, not organized yet, but eventually will get shelves and organization

looking through the door into the shed side

our girls home-we let them have the whole yard when we are around, they do poop a lot though, so sometimes it is nice to keep them in their pen.
