So, when I started hinting around that I was "thinking" about getting chickens again (after 30 years), my husband, Richard, was all in! He could easily build a little lean-to along side the horse barn and we'd be good to go! Poor Richard. NOT what I had in mind! So, here is what has been a project this summer. I actually had carpenters come in to do most of the work and Richard has been wonderful doing the fancy trim, spire, run and flower boxes....which are not yet installed under the windows. Right now I have one hen who began laying about two weeks ago and one rooster which are both Gold-laced cochins. I have 8 mixed week old peeps in the garage so am planning on a nice little mixed group of pullets/hens by Spring.
Richard says, "So far, each of those eggs are costing about $500!" I just don't get his concern.....
