So, I have never actually raised chicks or kept chickens, but after going to my local tack and feed store for supplies for my horse and seeing the bin of Silkies I started doing some research. We live on a 3 acre farm off a quiet street and certainly have the means to support a small flock. After doing some research and setting up a brooder box and light I purchased 2 white, 2 brown, and 2 blue silkie chicks - unfortunately they were straight run, so I'm bound to have roosters. I've picked out a spot for a chicken coop and run and construction is planned for next week. Any suggestions on taming the chicks? I would ultimately like to allow them to roam on the property during the day while supervised, but I need to be able to catch and secure them at night.
