It all started with a trip to a tractor supply store in March 2011 with my husband and his 10 year old son. Don't all 10 year olds want baby chicks when they see them? Our answer to his request was for us to go home and do research on the care and keeping of chickens. That's how we found BYC and I have been hooked every since. After looking at many, many coop designs my husband told me to come up with a plan and we could build our coop. Funny thing that happened along the way., we got our chickens before the coop was complete. Seems to happen to a lot of people building coops. Anyway it certainly helped keep us motivated to complete the coop when the chicks started to fly around the garage!
We used our favorite ideas from other coops we saw on BYC and came up with a few of our own. It was a labor of love. It had to be as we worked on it after work in the dark, a couple of nights until midnight. It turned out wonderful!!!
Sorry to say, the marriage didn't work out, however we did have a wonderful chicken coop and I enjoyed every minute of the building process and having our hens and I appreciate all the hard work that went into the process and having our 7 lovely ladies with their individual personalities. They certainly entertained us more than we ever expected.
