This past June I decided that it would be nice to get some chickens. My best friend has a chicken farm, so we got 4 red star pullets from her. (Actually more like saved them... from a life of being a production hen, cooped up in a tiny cage all the time.) That's when the fascination/obsession started!
Since then, our chicken family has grown by leaps and bounds! We now have over 35 chickens (some still chicks and some meat birds), that include varieties like Turkens, Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Blue Laced Wyandottes, Russion Orloffs, Easter Eggers, and our beloved mutts.
When I'm not playing with my chickens, I am momma to two beautiful children, and have a wonderful, patient, accepting husband. During the weekday I don my teacher hat and teach/entertain a big class of kindergarteners, who love learning about the chickens, seeing the eggs that will one day unzip to reveal adorable fluffy chicks, and passing peeps around the classroom... howling each time a fuzzy butt poops on the floor! I love Jesus, and I aspire to be like him... although more often than not, I fail miserably. Even on my darkest days, I am blessed beyond belief!
Never in my wildest dreams would I think of myself as a chicken lady. Alas, here I am. I have turned into the crazy chicken lady. And I'm lovin' every minute! [IMG]
