I'm a transplanted southern girl from the Big Easy (New Orleans) living here in rural Colorado with my husband and our dogs, cats, fish, and new flock of chickens. We're raising a small flock of mixed birds - 4 buff orpington, 4 easter eggers, 3 rhode island reds, and one rhode island red rooster (Roux.) We got our chicks in April, 2010, and about half have begun to lay. One hen (we don't know who yet) is laying very large, double-yolk eggs. No easter egg colors yet, so I'm wondering about those 4 hens...will post pictures and share experiences with my backyard bird friends! Thank goodness for this forum!
