Ingredients:

1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. butter flavored shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tbsp vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Cooking Instructions

1. In your mixer cream butter, shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. 2. In a second bowl sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. 3. On low, slowly add the flour mix to the creamed butter in step 1, mix well. 4. Cover with plastic wrap and chill 90 minutes. 5. Preheat Oven to 400° 6. Split dough into 3 sections, and roll 1 section at a time, so the dough stays workable. 7. Roll and cut with cookie cutters, then carefully transfer onto baking sheets. 8. Bake 6-8 minutes, or until the edges are golden. 9. Cool on wire racks. 10. Frost with sugar icing.

Note: Sugar icing: In a bowl mix 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1 tsp milk, and a few drops of food coloring, stir until smooth, adding more milk to loosen or sugar to thicken, until spreadable. Bake ahead a double batch, and let the kids ice them as a holiday activity. I also make these ahead for birthday parties, and let the kids ice them and take them home as favors.
