The Horse Barn Chicken Coop was designed to match our horse stable. I couldn't find a design, let alone plans, for what I wanted, so I gave DH my idea & desired dimensions, and he planned & built it out of a mixture of leftover & purchased materials. It has lots of light to help the hens lay well, good air circulation for our hot, humid NC summers, and plexiglass shutters to close off the windows in the winters, which get down to 0 F. We use deep litter inside, just like our horse stalls.

Its features include:
room for up to 9 standard chickens
4' W x 6' L x 6' H overall
Built 2' off the ground on treated wood runners
5 1' x 1' windows screened with 1/2" hardware cloth
Latchable hinged plexiglass shutters on all windows
Large hinged clean-out door on one end
2 nest boxes attached to the inside of the clean-out door
1' x 1' chicken door with latchable hinged wooden shutter on other end
5' long ramp hangs on eyelet hooks underneath chicken door
room for three 4' long roost poles
metal roof
weatherproof exterior materials
