    I am new to raising chickens. We got our first batch of chicks from our local Tractor Supply store, all 13 of them, in April '11. We raised them for about 2 months before giving 10 to a friend who has a farm and keeping three for ourselves. We live in the city and wanted to keep our numbers down. :) They love free ranging in the yard during the day and eating all the different snacks we bring to them. We have two Rhode Island Reds and one white Leghorn.
    Recently a neighbor dropped off a new chicken for us. How nice! He's a silkie rooster, so my city neighbors surely love having a "farm" in town! :-}
