Welcome! As I write this, I'm am "patiently" (yeah right) on day 18 of my first ever chicken hatch. I'm not a patient person, so the waiting is killing me. I think it's a Leo thing.
My name is Cindy and I live in Ohio. I have two children, a boy and a girl, ages 15 and 18 respectively. I also have one wonderful man - Mark, to whom I am eternally greatful for teaching me what life is really about. Life isn't about your career, how much money you make, how big your house is, or how you keep up with the Jones's - it's about ENJOYING it and living one day at a time. There is beauty everywhere you look. Just plant a milkweed and you will see. Talk about an entire ecosystem on one plant!! And they smell good too.
I love to garden, or rather, I love to plant and grow seeds. Every winter/spring I start hundreds of seeds. This helps me keep my sanity during the long, cold Ohio winter. When there is no life showing outdoors under the blanket of white and the trees are stark branches of ugliness, life is thriving in my basement nursery. I dread spending every weekend in February and March potting, repotting, repotting again, but it brings so much joy and peace to me and to those who buy my plants. And it puts a few bucks in my pocket...I won't kid ya.
But chickens...ahhh...love my chickens. Our chicken craze started last August when we were at the county fair in the chicken barn. My daughter BEGGED for a chicken and of course I said no. Not rational to have chickens in the suburbs. And they're dirty/messy/loud. Well, dear Mark surprised us with an order of 15 girls and 1 boy (Little Ralphie Roo, go figure) in September on a sad day while the kids and I were at my favoriteUncle's funeral. Texted me a pic and so we HAD to rush home and check it out! They were the sweetest little peeps. Today they are wonderful, friendly producers of large brown eggs. We all probably have high cholesterol now but we love them! Then, not to be outdone, I adopted from a local elderly man 5 banty hens and one roo. Love them too! Couldn't stop...can't stop the chicken craze...had to get meat chickens! 13 Freedom Rangers arrived in March. Beautiful birds and I cried when the time came to "do the deed". I say I won't do it again, but...I'm a nut. So, those came and went. Coop was empty. Ordered 11 girls and 1 boy - Buff Orps from Meyer Hatchery. Fortunately they are nearby and it was a wonderful, scenic drive through Amish country to pick them up. They are 4 weeks old now and I love every one of them.
So that wasn't enough...told you I'm a nut...MORE MORE MORE...Mark's sister breeds/sells button quail, so she sent me 12 eggs. Six hatched and were adorable!! Sold those. MORE MORE MORE...Now I've got 43 button quail and 41 chicken eggs in the incubators due to hatch this weekend. I AM a nut!!! But I am enjoying this more than you know.
