    Additional InformationChapter 7-5 states regarding Fowl at large: It shall be unlawful for any person to permit any fowl belonging to him to go at large in the city. Anyone violating this section shall be punished by a fine of up to two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00), in the discretion of the court. (Code 1959, ยง 4-7; Ord. No. O-10-025, 3-23-10)

    There are coop restrictions and maximum numbers allowed in Lynchburg. You have to look in the permitted uses for your residential zone. In low density R1 you may have 1 - 4 hens for non commercial personal use. The coop must be set back 20 ft. from any street or lot line (35.1-29). You must live on 10 acres or more to have 5 or more chickens (35.1-28).
