July 8, 2010
Hi everyone! Just thought I'd update this a little bit... Anyway here is my current flock:
  • 1 EE rooster- no name yet!
  • 12 EE hens Names- Big Mama, Chixsie, Maddy, Quail, Tristan, Sunshine, Gretchen, Nikkita, Kohla Faye, Moxie, Red, and Chocolate
  • 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte hen Name- Audrey (as in Hepburn!)
  • 4 Barred Rocks (hens) Names- Onyx, Vincent Van Gogh, Queenie, and Blackjack
  • 3 Egyptian Fayoumis Names- Princess Aziza, Femi, and Charger
  • 2 Splash Cochins (hens) Names- Heather and Day
  • 1 Golden Penciled Hamburg hen Name- Fawn
  • 2 Black Jersey Giants (Hens) Names- Henrietta and Bernadette
  • 1 White Bearded Polish hen Name- Synergy
  • 1 White Crested Black Polish hen Name Name- Mike
In all, that's 28 chickens. Our number is constantly changing because of unfortunate deaths, new birds, and rehoming situations. Since my last "blog" I said we had 29 chickens, that is because we had boughts six babies. :) 2 Jersey Giants, and 4 Easter Eggers. Shortly after, our beloved gold Cochin Goldie passed away of an unknown illness (number down to 28). After that we had a Wyandotte that became overly aggressive, Ruby not Audrey whom we still have, and we had to rehome her. The new flock put her in her place and she is doing fine now (bumped our # down to 27). After wanting a rooster for so long, after my EE rooster Mika had passed away in 2009 (how I got my username) I finally got my wish. A friendly local BYCer gave me a gorgeous EE rooster (bumped the number to 28) whom I named Rudolph Raphael Valentino, long name got shortened to Rudy. The day before we were going to move him in with the hens after his quarantine, a raccoon got him at about 1 in the morning on July 1, 2010. We caught the stupid coon at around 5AM, and disposed of it. I was heartbroken and didn't want to tell his previous owner but knew that I needed to. He graciously gave us another chance and gave us his last EE roo. We sneak him into the garage every night so that he is DEFINITELY safe. Just last night, we caught another coon. My father disposed of this one too. Our number is now 28 again and hopefully will remain that way, unless we decide to hatch some eggs! I'll try to add pictures once I figure it out.. ;) That's it for now!

Hi everybody! My name is Cassidy and I own 23 chickens and I am obsessed..

In April 2009 I lost my beloved EE rooster, Mika. He was a big part of our family and we still love him very much. I would like to add pictures, but can't figure it out... Anyway I own 8 EEs, 1 hamburg, 3 Egyptian fayoumis, 2 polish, 3 cochins, 2 wyandottes, and 4 barred rocks. It is pretty foggy here in Oregon so the chickies don't get much sun, :/ But, they make do. They are pets and will live out there lives to their full extent. I want more chickens!! But we are still 'debating' it.... My dream birds are the Millie Fleurs (spelling??) and a Fayoumi flock including roos. Both are rare and someday I hope to have more Fayoumis and a few Millie Fleurs. ;] I am a dork and spend my summers with my chickens, even though there have only been two summers so far. But, for sure, this addiction will continue. ;) Haha... I love them more than anything but lets not forget my 7 yr old yellow labrador retriever, Buddy. He loves the chickens and would never hurt them. We are so lucky to have him to protect our lovely little flock. I may not have any pics yet, but check out some of my videos of my flock at: http://www.youtube.com/user/koolkat991
