hey all, just wanted to throw some pics up so i could send a link to family out of state, so they can see the girls.
these hens have great personality and seem to be getting use to me. my daughter on the other hand, sends them running to the other end of coop to avoid her, unless she is still, crouched down, and has a hand full of fresh picked grass sticking in through the chicken wire. in which case they will approach her with extreme caution. she tends to move too quickly and speak too loudly for the chickens comfort so they avoid her unless lured in.the coop seem plenty big i see them using the outside roost during the day for basking in the sun and they sleep together on the indoor roosts. they love the run and spend quite a bit of time out there. they have a container full of poultry grit, a container of oyster shells and fresh water changed twice a day as well as pellet style Layena, layer food. i toss some cracked corn in the run once in a while and we throw hand fulls of fresh picked grass in a couple times a day as well as let them out to free range for a bit when the weather and conditions allow(North Carolina has had a very wet spring/summer so far). it has been suggested that i put a sand box in the run and i probably will soon i understand that's how they get bugs off them. i have also found that ants are starting to find and like the coop so some DE will be added the next time i change out their bedding.
please if you read this and can help me by suggesting adding anything that will increase the chickens happiness, and/or increase their willingness to lay eggs it would be very appreciated. if there are coop improvements you can think of please suggest them i am trying very hard to do this right but it's been a while since i had chickens to care for and my grandfather did most of the work back then.
