MY NEW BABIES

    HELLO TO ALL,
I AM A NEW MOMMIE TO BABY CHICKENS. THEY ARE NOW 5-6 WEEKS OLD. CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT BREED I HAVE NOW? I BOUGHT THEM FROM TRACTOR SUPPLY AND THEY COULD NOT TELL ME MUCH. THEY GAVE ME ONE THAT IS A MINI CHICKEN. SHE IS NOT GROWING AS FAST AS THE OTHERS AND SHE LOOKS FUNNY WHEN SHE IS BREATHING...BUT SHE ISNT SICK...LOOKS LIKE HER LUNGS ARE IN HER BUTT. I KNOW THAT SOUNDS WEIRD. WE WATCH HER ALL THE TIME TO MAKE SURE SHE IS OK...ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD HELP

Thank you for your reply. Oh no the other chicks/hens are great with her. I do have a seperate place for her if she gets sick. She is growing and eating and drinking as well as the others. She is just so small and her breathing is so different. I noticed her acting this way from day one. I can say I am totally addicted to my chickens. lol...never thought I would be. I talk to them everyday. I am glad I decided to do this. I still worry about the smaller one. I just need to keep an eye on her.

I can't help with the breeds; when I got mine I had no clue either and I really just waited until they got older to figure out what I had brought home lol. As for the little guy, if he were mine I would keep a close eye on him, making sure that the others weren't bullying/pecking him. If that happens just have another space ready to sepatrate him from his buddies and see if he thrives that way. With mine some needed special attention when they were chicks- their own space and food etc and are alive and well now, if a bit smaller than my others. Good luck to you :)
