My Sweet Peeps

We're almost to our one year mark of having our chickens in our lives and I have to say it's been a lot of fun.
We have 4, but one is very shy and for some reason, runs when I have the camera. ? But the other 3 are actually hard to photograph because every time I get down to chicken level they come running! The camera can only refocus so fast!
Blue is a RIR and Harriet is a beautiful big Buff Orpington and we raised them from chicks. When the chicks were about 4 months old we got Nelly, a Barred Rock and also 4 months old at that time, and Phyllis, a Serama (she is the one who hides), who was about 9 months old at that time.
Here are some photos I just took - it's a rare sunny day in Washington and I just had to take advantage of the day!

I like how you were able to capture the expressions on your hen's faces. I enjoy trying to figure out what is going on inside their little minds! I too have a dog that looks just like yours and he is such a sweetheart as well--he is half cattle dog and half black lab.

    Thanks everyone!
CJkid - he's a mix, we got him from the pound too - I suspect pitbull and something tri-colored. He's as sweet as ever and loving and a great dog.

Oh! The purple thing in the background of the last picture is actually a squirrel condo. We foster orphaned baby squirrels and release them once they're ready and the condo (bigger than a house, smaller than a farm) is a feeding / shelter location for as long as they need it - which usually isn't long.
Thank you for all for the compliments, we do have some happy birds and I do love them so.
Phyllis, the bantam does just fine with the bigger birds. She's not on top of the pecking order but doesn't get picked on either.

ChemicalchiCkns....if your talking about the purple thing in the last photo I'm pretty sure its a emerald ash borer trap or a decoration of some kind. We have those traps all along our highways and they look similar to the ones in the picture. Also, if you want to get rid of Gypsy Moths (we had the issue a few years back) you just wrap some burlap around a tree and they crawl in and die. I hope this helps!

Beautiful birds, does the size difference between them and Phyllis cause any problems ? Or in a some cases is bantam Phyllis the hen head of the four ? If not then I guessing Blue or Nelly is the head hen.

They look like beautiful, happy birds. Thanks for sharing. My Barred rock is kind of flighty, though.
