You never know what you're going to get when the helpful lady at the Tractor supply dips her hand into the water-tank-make shift brooder. But we got Rosey. "Rhode Island Red?" she asks. I say "Yes, definitely." A little redhead just like me, of course I want a Rhode Island Red. They peeped all the way home (she's part of 9 assorted chicks in our new brood). While the others settled down from their ride in the box under the red brooder light. Rosey began her exploration of her new home. Beaver Branch Roost. Check. Chick Starter in the feeder, check. No need to dip her beak in the waterer. She already knows what that's all about. The other 8 still looking around not taking any steps yet. Nosey Rosey has already done a circle around them all.

Left to Right/Top to Bottom: Our little Jardin des Poulets: New Hampshire Red, Roger; Black Australorp, Holly; Silver Laced Wyandotte, Sylvia; Araucana, Lily; Rhode Island Red, Rosey; Black Cochin Bantam, Daisy; Araucana, Violet; Partridge Rock, Hans; Buff Orpington, Sunny.

We had visitors their first weekend. The kids' friends, adults with wine glasses in hand, enjoying them just being chicks. By far most popular: Rosey. Put down your hand. She's there to check you out. Gently slide your hand under her crop and body and lift her out of the brooder. No problem --she's not wiggling or peeping to get away. Already this weekend...not sure if we should have done it. We started with some treats from the great outdoors. Small earthworms. That's when the real entertainment began. Rosey, of course, checked them out first. Began the chick chase stampede. When Holly (Black Austrolorp chick) had a worm away from Rosey in a corner. Rosey sped into the corner stole it while Holly was pecking at it on the ground and zipped right out of that corner worm in beak. My little speedy Red Girl. So much curiosity. And so much speed. You are so fun. And a cuddler too. Today is your 5th day with us. We look forward to more...

Roosting with Hans I wanted to get a pretty picture of your Fluff. Of course, you had to Peek to see what I was up to. 8 weeks old in this picture. You are catching June Bugs like Crazy now. No surprise. You are so fast...

What's this, Rosey? A little Sunshine for your gizzard? Time to slow down and take a break next to your "imprint" mother. I'm ever more charmed by you and your ways. Treats or no Treats you love us up any ole time. Rest your little Red Head and soak up the rays...
