This is our Sebastopol goose, or gander, Gabriel. Gabriel is 15 weeks old right now and we still don't know if he is a boy or girl. Either way, Gabriel has totally changed my opinion of geese! He is the friendliest bird and loves to sit right next to you and nibble on your shoes. He loves fresh lettuce, watermelon and cucumbers. The runner ducks have taught him to like dried mealworms almost as much as they do. He has one bad habit, he picks the ripe tomatoes and leaves them for the ducks. I think he likes how excited they get when they find the prize. He is just starting to honk, his voice really carries, luckily he isn't jibber jabbering all the time like the ducks. This is our first time raising birds and so far we have been really enjoying it. We are anxiously awaiting our first duck eggs in a week or two, and I guess we will have to wait until Spring to see if Gabriel is a she and will provide any eggs too!
Well it appears Gabriel has decided to 'adopt' the 6 one month old ducklings we added to the flock because we have too many boys. I have never heard so much honking! She is always trying to get them to follow HER plan, not their own.
