Welcome to my BYC page!! Here we'll be able to document our lives as chicken peeps...starting with the COOP!
The coop is complete!! Below are some pics of the progress of building the coop!
We started with a used shed, which was delivered to our driveway with a bunch of guys to come help unload it:
Then we set to work squaring the walls, turning 2 doors into stationary ones, adding a window & coop run door, interior walls, etc (all in about 15 degree weather...brrr!!)
Next we had to move it close to its final resting place before adding any more weight...with the help of our SUV lol...
Once we got it there we added an automatic door opener, which our dog thought was just for her to give us her ball to throw for her...
And some nesting boxes. We did not make them accessibe from the outside due to the cold weather and trying to weather proof as much as possible.
There are 2 doors to the coop, 1 will be easily accessible for daily egg collecting, the other is to use for coop clean-outs and will be near the compost pile.

Next, we got chicks!! Original order was from Ideal Hatchery for 25 chicks - 6 SLW (for someone else), 5 EE's, 2 BO's, 2 BR's, 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 2 Partridge Cochins, 2 White Silkies, 2 Grey Silkies, 1 Golden Campine, 1 RIR. These arrived Feb 11th, 2011 - but unfortunately we lost a few right away (2 white silkies, 1 RIR, 1 SLW). We kept 1 of the SLW's, who is now a favorite and a sweetheart (Salt). We were also sent 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes instead of the Columbians...
