When we started planning our chicken coop we made it as predator-proof (over-built) as possible. The coop itself is 8' x 8' and the attached run is also 8' x 8', enclosed top and sides in hardware cloth with hardware cloth buried laterally 3' out on all sides of the structure. Double latches on both doors.
I also raise Japanese quail and am working on breeding heavier-bodied birds. It's been a long process, but they're tasty little birds and we love their eggs pickled with garlic and a little chipotle.
