The City Council shall have the power to prohibit or control the location and management of any offensive, unwholesome business or establishment in or within one mile of the municipality and may compel the owner of any pigsty, privy, barn corral, fur-bearing animal farm, feed yard, poultry farm, or other unwholesome or nauseous house or place to cleanse, abate or remove the same B)SECTION 12-200 12-200-060 Animals and Fowl GENERAL PROVISIONS No agricultural animals shall be kept or maintained within seventy-five (75) feet of any dwelling nor shall any such animal be kept or maintained within forty (40) feet of any zone district boundary that prohibits such use. No coop or shelter for keeping of agricultural fowl shall be constructed or maintained within seventy-five (75) feet of a dwelling nor forty (40) feet of a zone district boundary which prohibits such use. C) 12-215-055 Farm Animals A. Minimum Requirements. The minimum lot size to keep and own farm animals shall be a minimum of one-half (½) of an acre lot. Residential lots zoned R-1 and RR-22, that are not at least a half-acre, are excluded from owning or keeping farm animals. B. Keeping of Farm Animals. No agricultural animals shall be kept within forty (40) feet of any residential dwelling. No structure for the keeping of agricultural animals or fowl shall be constructed or maintained within forty (40) feet of a residential dwelling. C. Standards for Farm Animal Use. 1. Large animals may be kept at a ratio of two (2) animals for each one-half (½) acre of lot size, or; 2. Medium animals may be kept at a ratio of five (5) animals for each one-half (½) acre of lot size, or; 3. Small animals may be kept at a ratio of twenty (20) animals for each one-half (½) acre of lot size. 4. Partially enclosed (and roofed) structures may be provided and maintained for all animals. Such structures shall be sited at the rear of the main dwelling and at least forty (40) feet from any dwelling unit, and comply with all other setback and yard Section 12-215 R-1 Residential Zone- Adopted June, 1998 Amended March 3, 2009 S:\\Planning\\Title12\\12-215 R-1.doc 65 regulations of the zone district and shall also comply with requirements outlined by the Salt Lake County Board of Health. 5. All types of pigs are strictly prohibited within the Riverton City limits. D. Large Farm Animals. Large farm animals shall include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Cow 2. Horse (Mule-Ass, Pony or similar species not listed). 3. Ostrich (or other similar size, closely related species). 4. Lama (or other similar species not listed). 5. Other animals of similar size, as determined by the Planning Department. E. Medium Farm Animals. Medium farm animals shall include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Sheep. 2. Emu. 3. Goat. 4. Turkey. 5. Geese. 6. Peacock. 7. Other animals of similar size, as determined by the Planning Department. F. Small Farm Animals. Small farm animals shall include but are not limited to the following: 1. Chicken. 2. Rabbit. 3. Ducks. 4. Pheasant. 5.Other animals of similar size, as determined by the Planning Department.
