Hi Everyone! My name is Rose and I am the proud Mama of a mixed flock of many! Children, grandchildren, hens, roosters and turkeys. Oh boy, I forgot to add Isabell our yellow lab and Callie, my cat! (My husband will never admit to having a cat himself!)
I became involved with poultry last year when my husband became ill. Maybe I should back up a bit, he was not my husband at the time, but a high school friend I had lost touch with and finally found again. When I found him last October, I high-tailed it back to Michigan from South Carolina, where I had temporarily relocated, and married the man! Well, back to my story, he was ill, and had a small flock of Pearl White Leghorns. When he ended up hospitalized many times over the winter, I naturally became Chicken MaMa! I had to go through the initiation of "freezer camp" for an over load of roosters, and learned to pluck and the rest of what goes into preparation for "freezer camp". That was not my favorite thing to do, but we do eat our birds, as well as the eggs. Birds that we eat are not kept long, but generally fall into the broiler catagory, so I do not get attached to them. Now, my laying hens, they are the ones that I have a hard time not spoiling and have them so that they even come up to the door and "knock" if I am not out with them and they think I should be!
[FONT=comic sans ms,sand]I am now the Assistant Organizer of the Lansing Backyard Poultry Meetup Group! We are looking for more chicken and other poultry crazy people to join us in the madness! We have meetups scheduled, and we have a great time! In fact, I know a couple members are already on here, so I am going to be watching for them, and learning a thing or two![/FONT]
