Sick Hen, Need Advice

    Hello,

I have read most of the articles in the Disease section and have not found anything that applies to my hen, Millie. She is making the strangest noises, when she breathes in and out. It's like nothing I can compare it to. It almost sounds like a cooing baby when she breathes out but a bit raspy when she breathes in. She is walking around. I gave her a bath with Dawn, as I read in one of the articles on Vent Kleet for chickens who have a nasty butt, which she had. The article also said to give her yogurt which she won't eat. She is not herself, walking slowly, and not eating much although she did eat small pieces of bread I gave her

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I agree, you should post in the emergencies forum. However, we had a young chicken that would make similar noises when breathing. I was convinced she had pneumonia. She was having out with our ducklings at the time who constantly splashed and billed out water, making a wet mess of the brooder. I removed the chicken, kept her dry and warm and within a week she recovered.
You could also try something like nutri-drench in the water. Yogurt (live culture types like plain greek yogurt or kefir) is good for a digestive issues, but what you described sounds respiratory. Of its actually child with digestive issues, I would be leaning towards a viral infection.
