Temperment

Silky chickens are one of the best breeds for those just starting out. They are very easy to take care of and they don't need as much room as most chickens. Because of their calm temperment they are good for small kids. If they are not picked up often they won't like being picked up it is best to start handling them when they are chicks. My hen Mrs. Peeps Alot loves attention but, is scared of being picked up.

Origin
People argue about the origin of this breed. Most say there from China or Japan. Others think there from India but, there is one thing you can't deny. They were first sold as a cross between a rabbit and a chicken. People soon found this was not true but, its still odd to think about.

Egg Production
Most silky chickens lay cream colored eggs. They are small bantam eggs. Most only lay 100 per year but, some have been known to lay 300!

Colors
There are many colors of silky chicken. Black, Blue, Buff, Partridge, Splash, White, and Gray. All of these colors are bearded and non-bearded.
