Sunset ledge Farms Coop Design​
Hello Everyone this is my coop design. it took a year to complete the coop because of set backs but i wouldn't change it for the world. I put a lot of thought and time into this coop to make it the way i want it and make it easier to clean too Cost was well over $3000.00 i went a little overboard yes i know but the chickens mean the world to me lol. And the sad part is i am not even finished!




It all started with a plan scratched on a piece of paper: Dimensions for the whole thing is 12' x 24' for the coop its 12' x12'

This coop also has another part to it which is going to house goats so half is the coop and the other half will be the goats pen.

We placed stone down and leveled it out so the coop can go on top of it. And if needed the coop can be moved it has skids on it




Then luckily where i live we have a lot of amish around us that love to build. We hired one of our Amish friends to build the coop and it took them about 4 days to build it working 10 almost 11 hours a day. They worked for $10.00 an hour. They built the shell of the coop and we finished the inside the way we wanted it.










The coop has a metal roof:





The coop has three roosting bars: (removable)



12 nesting boxes. 2 rows of 6 each at 18" wide:




I can also access the boxes from the outside of the coop if needed:




We also added a window: (Another will be added in the spring)






we had an issue where the chickens would roost in the window making a mess so we have added a screen that is removable over the window so they cant make a mess in their and i can easily open and close the window when needed.




we added a ceiling and insulated walls and painted them to seal it: (painted it a light color so it stimulates egg production)









The wall with the roosting bars has FRP board on it so it is easier to clean the walls when needed:(we even added molding lol)




The coop door out to the run lifts open and we have a pin that holds it up:





We added linoleum flooring for easier clean up: (linoleum was on sale!)





We also added electrical: (not hooked up yet)




The run is a big chain link dog kennel with netting over the top that is zip tied down and we have a metal ramp from our old barn:






And last but not least fresh bedding and chickens!:





So a rough estimate on what i spent on it:
Amish working: $780.00
the roof materials: $422.00
linoleum: $192.00
Stone: 4 tons at $6.75 a ton so $27.00
insulation: 2 rolls of 3" x 23" R11 at 40.29 each came to 86.82
wood and wafer board and nails: $685.00
electrical: $99.78
other: $204.36
(not all is listed only the receipts i found)

Would i change anything? Honestly as of right now no i would not change anything. The chickens have been in it for a few months now and everything is working great!

What is to be added:
I will be adding roosting areas to the run
a poop board will be added under the roosting bars for easier clean up
another window on the opposite side of the coop
A sign that has the name of the coop and when it was built

The Positives:
Egg production has gone way up! this time last year i got zero eggs now i am getting 10+ eggs a day :)
Easier cleaning with the linoleum flooring just scrape out real quick and add fresh bedding!
nice and warm during the winter months because of the insulation
good ventilation because of the windows
and very predator proof
