Ever since I started baking my own bread a few years ago I've been moving more and more towards gaining more control over my own food chain. Raising chickens for eggs is just a natural extention of that. This year I plan to grow a much bigger organic garden and intoduce chickens into the mix for bug control, composting and fertilizer. Plus you get eggs out of the deal, win, win.

We'll see how it goes. My plan is to start out with 4 black sex links and add one every 6 months or so to keep egg production constant until reaching a max of 10 chickens. After reaching 10 then I'll just replace non laying hens.
